Which version are you using ?
Did you create 2 posts pages (one for French and one for English) and link them together ?
WP 3.2.1 and Polylang 0.4.4. Yes I have created 2 posts, one in french, one in english, both are linked.

There was a problem in 0.4.3 which was normally corrected in 0.4.4. Could you post a link here ?
no i can’t, it’s just a test to choose the right plugin, the site is not online yet.

I understand… I generally do the same π
Well I will try to reproduce your settings. Could you answer the question below ?
Polylang settings:
Default language used ?
Detect browser preference ?
Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks ?
Hide URL language information for default language ?
Reading:
If I well understood, the front page displays a static page.
Language of the static front page ?
Language of the posts page ?
Which permalink structure are you using ?
Are you using PHP5+ ?
so,
Polylang settings:
Default language used ? -> French or English
Detect browser preference ? -> Yes
Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks ? -> No
Hide URL language information for default language ? -> No
Reading:

I reproduced the bug. I will work on it and include the correction in the next release.
However it should already work correctly if you use a different permalink structure (at least it does on my test version).
I tried with another permalink structure and it works ! Thank you for that great plugin π
