First make sure that the plugin is updated to the latest version. This can be done on the plugins page.
A couple of questions:
1. What version of WordPress are you using?
2. Can you give me a list of the other plugins you have installed?

Renaming the plugins folder should cause your site to not work or at the least throw a bunch of errors. If you suspect a plugin is the culprit and you have FTP access you should delete the suspect plugin and try again.
I would highly recommend installing the latest version of L7 Login Customizer as in the last five days there have been several updates.
I recommend installing the plugin from the dashboard using the search and install feature native to WordPress. This ensures that you are installing the latest release.
