I have a client who would like to display 4 footer widgets, in a child theme of GeneratePress, each displaying a single post. From left to right, the first widget would display the most recent post, the 2nd widget, the next most recent post and so on, each of the next 2 widgets displaying the next post in the rotation.

Can anyone recommend a plugin or some other method which can be configured to dynamically update the order of the posts without me or my client having to manually change the post ID in each widget?

Hmm, this is the only plugin I know of that displays posts: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/display-posts-shortcode/

Then, you would have to use the “offset” option (hopefully the plugin includes it). The offset option will ignore the latest post, latest 2 posts etc.. (whatever number you have set). So the first widget wouldn’t have any offset, the second would be offset=”1″ and so on.
