Plugin seems to stop working with 1000 plugins

Hi,
We’re running Collapsing Categories on a website here. A while a go it stopped working in the live environment but it was still working in the test environment. After some reading in this support forum we found that the plugin stops working if you have too many posts on your site. This was also the only difference between our live and test site. So, I imported all posts from the live site to the test site (2000 posts) and then the plugin stopped working in test environment too.

Conclusion: Too many posts might stop the plugin from working

This seems to be a known issue. Is there a know solution? I can’t seem to find anything in this forum
