[Plugin: Special Recent Posts] Change language for dates

Hi there,
can someone please tell me how I can change the language format for dates in the Plugin editor? I want the date to be in German and in the format 4. September 2012 and not September 4th, 2012.
I now there is a setting in the widget panel, but I am using SRP also on a page through the shortcode [srp …]
Please help me!
