plugin updates fail

Hi,
I need to update several plugins and wordpress. When I try the update fails as it can’t create directory. The error is:
Downloading update from http://downloads.wp.xz.cn/plugin/akismet.3.1.9.zip…Unpacking the update…
Could not create directory. /wp-content/upgrade/akismet.tmp
