Plugin Upload Fails
-
Hello,
I’ve just encountered a very strange issue when trying to upload a plugin via WordPress.
I went to Plugins > Add New > Upload. Selected a zip file (containing a folder with plugin files). When I hit Install, I got redirected to /wp-admin/update.php?action=upload-plugin but was shown (to my surprise) just a regular Error 404 – Page Not Found.
I tried
– switching all the plugins off
– switching to basic theme
– replacing all the files (except wp-content and wp-config.php)
– checking file properties
– switching off pretty linksWhen I disabled pretty links, the only result was that instead of being taken to Error page, I received the message “Are you sure you want to do this?”
I experienced this issue on two websites:
– notjusttourist.com
– dev.notjusttourist.comI did all the attempts on the dev site, for obvious reasons.
When I tried installing a plugin via the backend search, it worked just fine. However, the plugin I tried to install was WooCommerce Cart Add-ons. This one is paid so I can’t install it with the search interface.
When I tried uploading a plugin to FTP manually, it didn’t show up on the list of plugins afterwards.
Please note: I’m not the one who built the site so its structure is pretty much unknown to me. That’s partly what makes it difficult to investigate the issue further.
At this point, I’m afraid I’m out of ideas and short of deeper knowledge. So, do you have any suggestion, folks?
Thank you in advance for sharing your tips!
Have a nice day
Matěj
