[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Persistent Connections – Memcached

If you’re not using the PECL memcache PHP extension the memcache performance is not optimal nor persistent. If the PHP module is installed it will use persistent connections. If you do not have a multiple server configuration, I do not recommend the use of memcached unless you really have some strategy you’re trying to realize.

When connecting to MySQL DB w/ DB cache enabled, does the persistent connection mean that there is a persistent connection between Memcached and WTC or does persistent connection mean that we are using a persistent connection now for MySQL?

Using DB cache doesn’t change how WP’s database logic works. There is nor a need or benefit for a persistent connection between memcached and MySQL. When properly installed there is a persistent connection between PHP (W3TC) and memcached.

The default connection for WordPress is using the mysql_connect(), Im just curious if that this plugin switches it to mysql_pconnect()? Seem to get a bunch of MySQL connections sleeping and I want to ensure that WTC is not causing persistent MySQL connections.

No it does not change WP’s logic.
