I changed from the Small Biz theme to Twenty Eleven. I had w3 Total Cache loaded and running on both. I noticed under the new theme that my most recent posts wouldn’t show up. I also saw that different browsers displayed my web page differently…if at all. I deactivated w3 Total Cache and now my posts are correct and the page displays uniformly in any browser. How did w3 Total Cache cause those problems?

Did you purge all of your cache’s after changing your theme? If not, there could easily have been cached objects and DB queries that could have been causing all sorts of issues. As a general rule, if I make any big changes, I purge everything.

Writing things to automate every conceivable scenario is incredibly difficult and not really great for performance. When in doubt purge.

If you did purge, remember that each theme is in a different directory. This might have caused problems in the rewrites. I can’t say for certain, but it is possible. At that point, sometimes a drastic measure of removing configuration files like .htaccess (there are more than one) or nginx.conf files and having them regenerated might help. Even more drastic, maybe reinstalling the plugin might be required.

If none of those things help, it’s outside my understanding of the plugin to help.

Hope that at least gives you some ideas.

That’s expected behavior, if your site is highly dynamic you either need fragment caching or low expires time for pages (set on the browser cache settings tab). If you’re logged in you should always see your changes instantly.
