[Plugin: WordPress Mobile Pack] mobile theme not loading/subdomain issue

Both on my desktop and my HT&T Tilt, the address that should load the mobile skin (mydomain.net/?wpmp_switcher=mobile) still loads my normal theme.
the Tilt is running Opera 8.65 for mobile, desktop is running firefox.

on a related note, I can’t seem to figure out how to get my m subdomain to point to the mobile version of the site. Should it point to mydomain.net/?wpmp_switcher=mobile ? Nothing about that was included in the instructions, just that the plugin doesn’t create the subdomain. Well, I had already created it a long time ago, and it was empty. I thought perhaps if I redirected to the site it would recognize where I was coming from and choose the mobile version. No such luck.
I haven’t yet tried to redirect it to the above address because it’s not working when I enter it manually so there’s no reason a redirect would fare any better.

Maybe I’m missing something obvious here, but after combing google and the wp forums for an answer I’m coming up empty handed.

(the blog’s real address is milkypink.net, subdomain is m.milkypink.net which currently just redirects to the normal domain)
