[Plugin: WordPress.com Stats] Stats not working, no smiley face anymore…

A week or so ago my blog stats stopped working. CPanel statistics show visitors but WP stats has been showing no hits or very few. Also, I noticed the smiley face image that is supposed to be displayed is gone, and when I search page source I can’t find ‘stats.wordpress.com’ anywhere, which I believe should be present in the source somewhere.

The footer code <?php wp_footer(); ?> found in footer.php is there, and I’ve tried changing themes and reinstalling the plugin. Everywhere I find on the internet is that either it still doesn’t work for some people or the footer code was missing.
