Plugin's custom post type isn't visible to theme

I’ve installed this plugin (http://issuem.com) that uses a custom post type called article, instead of the standard WordPress posts or pages, to organize the site’s content. Unfortunately, the theme installed doesn’t recognize this custom post type. It can still see the categories but it outputs no articles at all.
How can I fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
