• I manage a few WordPress websites, and in two of them, plugin auto updates don’t work. I’m out of ideas about how to debug this problem and find why automatic updates are not being performed.

The updates page shows “scheduled to update in two days”… the countdown decreases… Then it gets back to “scheduled to update in two days”… No actual auto update is done. But this only happens for plugins.

I have already checked the following:
    – I can manually update the plugins with updates available, no errors when a plugin with updates available is updated manually.
    – WP core auto updates are working, although no notification email was sent for update to 5.8 that was done automatically a few days ago.
    – WP translation updates are working.
    – WPCron is working. Other background task are performed. And the site health page doesn’t show any warnings about missed scheduled tasks.

I have enabled debug options and manually run the scheduled wpcron task (using plugin WP Crontrol) to auto update plugins, but there was no info logged.

These two sites were created on an initial test hosting and subdirectory of a domain and then moved using Duplicator plugin to new hosting (same hosting these two) and domains.

Is there a way to debug what is preventing the plugin auto update feature from working?

    Thank you.

Thanks, I have reviewed the links on your previous post, but sorry, I don’t think they apply to my problem… Or can you elaborate on the various reasons for auto update to fail, so I can check them?

I can manually update any plugins by just pressing the “update now” link (on the plugin list page) or using the updates page, if an update is available. No problems at all. I can install and uninstall, activate and deactivate plugins with no problems using the plugins page (don’t need to manually install/uninstall or upload them).

But the auto update feature doesn’t seem to work for plugins. It works for WordPress core or translations (althout email notifications are not send, don’t know why…), but no for plugins.

Plugins autoupdate does work on the initial test hosting (the test site is still up), where the site was before moving it using Duplicator to the final hosting and domain.

If I can provide additional information to help diagnose the problem, please, tell me.

    Thanks again.

I finally found the the new hosting uses “Plesk WordPress Toolkit”, and that seems to override the normal WordPress updates, cron, maintenance page and a few other options… Of course, the hosting support people doesn’t know how to change its settings or when it runs its own automatic updates 😛

I would prefer WordPress doing updates on its own, without other programs interfering it, but it seems there is no way to disable “WordPress Toolkit” (I already tried “detaching” the WordPress installation), as is something forced by the hosting provider.

Is there a way for WordPress itself not to be overriden by this program?

    Thanks.

I also enabled auto updates on Track JRS but they are not getting updating.
