I have a multisite installation setup and on the network plugins page none of the plugins show that they have updates available, though a dozen or more do. This means I can’t click anything to update them and would have to update them all via FTP, manually. I’ve already tried disabled all of the plugins and that doesn’t have any effect. Any other ideas?

Did you disable update alerts jn WP-config?

Have you tried with a different theme on the main site?

Update alerts are not disabled in WP-config. Activating a default theme on the main site had no effect. See here for the Network Plugin screen: http://i.imgur.com/yh06lx4.jpg

Well THAT becomes even weirder when you notice that your THEMES are showing updates!

The odds are you have a plugin that’s doing this. I’d start looking at any that have their own updater, and disable those.

Well I’ve already tried disabling all of the plugins and the notifications still don’t appear…

Could it be a permissions issue with some folder/files?

Any other ideas? I really need to get this resolved.

Sorry, I’ve been on the road.

Did you try checking to see if a plugin (or maybe your theme…) has an updater in it?

Some may have updaters – though I can’t think of any that do – but why would that matter if I disabled them all and the problem persists?

Because they could still be being called in cron.

Assuming that none of them have integrated updaters, what else can I check? What folder permissions could cause this issue? Is there a cache to clear?

    The basic steps are…

    1) Rename plugins to plugins-off

    2) rename mu-plugins to mu-plugins-off

    3) Activate the default (twenty fourteen) theme on your main site

See if that fixes it. If not, try reinstalling the core WP files.

Inexplicably, the plugins are now updateable. I did nothing to the server. Perhaps it was something in my local browser cache on two computer and in different browsers. Thanks for your help, though!
