Plugins not working.

    Hello All.

    I’ve been getting the following error.

    My employer would like me to add some features to the site, and neither of us is able to add plugins. We simply get the following error:

    “Downloading install package from http://downloads.wp.xz.cn/plugin/bbpress.2.2.4.zip…

    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the plugin…

    Could not create directory. /data/22/1/164/5/2660697/user/2906043/htdocs/www.energydimensions.net/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/

    Plugin install failed.”

    I am currently using version 3.4.1 of wordpress.. and need a plugin to backup the website before I make changes in case anything gets screwed up in the update.

    Any help / suggestions would be great. I’m kind of stuck at my desk until I get this done.

    Try adding this to the top of your .htaccess file:

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

    Just call your host and they’ll walk you through it. It’s probably a file permissions error or some funky setting they have. T-p what makes you think they’re running php4?

    Hey guys, thanks for your replies.

    T-P I don’t know how to do that..

    and Andrew: I am doing these changes for the guy who owns the site. He doesnt know anything about who is hosting it.. He doesn’t know anything but his password and username.

    I would really need the “WordPress for dummies” version.

    I’m sorry about that. But I have used wordpress twice before to upload an image. That’s it. This server craziness is beyond me.

    Shinra, just ask him who he pays the bill to every month. He should know that sort of thing anyway. Any solution I could offer you would involve you FTPing into your server, and if that’s beyond your current skill set, calling your host and asking the tech (I use the term here loosely) on the other end to walk you through what the issue was so it turns into a learning moment is really the best route.
