    Hello,

I apologise if this is a common issue, but a quick search around didn’t help.

WordPress version updates and plugin updates theoretically work fine for me on a site I am managing, but the update page itself never seems to complete/finalise, and runs the ‘Updating…’ messages continuously. However, when I open the site in a new tab, it is not in maintenance mode, and updates seem to have processed as expected. I’ve then been able to close the ‘Updating…’ page without adverse effects – but still, it seems odd.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions – for example, is this likely to be a server issue? Or a particular plugin?

    Thank you!

I suggest MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Thanks so much for the helpful information, Tara. I’ve performed a successful manual update to the latest version, and hopefully this should have solved the problem for future plugin updates as well?
