Possible Bug: WordPress Blog Comments Not Functional when Plugin Enabled

    Hi there – I have found a conflict with this plugin on a website I work with and am wondering if there is a related bug with the plugin.

    When the plugin is enabled, anonymous users can not post comments to the blog on the website. When they fill out the form to do so, the following error occurs: “ERROR: please fill the required fields (name, email).” Authenticated users who are logged in ARE able to comment on the blog.

    When the plugin is disabled, everyone can post comments. I tried all of the classic troubleshooting steps of disabling the theme and all plugins and then turning things on one at a time to figure out which piece of the puzzle seemed to be the issue.

    Do you have any thoughts on whether this might be a bug with the plugin? Is it something you’ve seen before? Any thoughts you have on it would be appreciated. Thank you!

    “When the plugin is enabled” – Just when it’s activated – or when the “Comments to Leads” feature is enabled?

    Does your theme not have the name/email field shown, or users are just not filling that out? Does it work if they do fill that out?

    Thanks Nick! I didn’t realize that comments to leads feature existed, but that is indeed the problem. When I have just “Create a lead when an approved comment is published” turned on everything works fine, it’s the “Replace the “Name” field on the comment form with “First Name” and “Last Name”” setting that causes the issue.

    The theme does have the name/email field shown and with the “replace the name” setting enabled the comments do not work when those fields are filled out by the user.

    I am going to check with my team and see if they are good with leaving the “replace the name” setting unchecked. Fingers crossed that is good with them. Thanks for your response to this question!

    Not all themes have the hooks required for the Replace the “Name” field on the comment form with “First Name” and “Last Name”” setting to work properly.

    Disabling that setting (or fixing the theme) should fix the issue.
