post and page permalink different?

    I have WP installed in /blog for now but want to make it my main site using pages to replace my existing /xyz.php pages.

    After I move the WP files to the root directory can I set the permalinks structure to retain the /blog/*postname* structure for posts and have a new set of /*pagename* URLs ongoing?
