Use the content option & limit the length instead of using the excerpt. WP strips all html tags out of the excerpt.

I am using content — not excerpt.

Sure, http://readingapprenticeship.org — client is trying to add em tag around some text in the slideshow for slide “Do you have your copy”, and the text is “Reading for Understanding” is a one-stop…
Are you using a custom excerpt? The text in the slider area is usually pulled from the page text. When I click thru to the actual post the text there is not the same as in the slider.
(which it should be)

Nope, just body text. But I’m using Custom Redirect URL to take the user elsewhere, not to the post.
That might be the issue.
You can upload an image to a post for the slider without actually having the image in the post itself.

Why would a redirect have anything to do with the stripping of html elements from the body?
Can you rule it out first?

Took out the redirect, didn’t change anything.
Can we see a screenshot of the Content Settings section?

I just got mine to work. Just selecting display post content wasn’t enough. I had to delete the “Limit content to # of characters” value.

Crazy, that worked, we now have italics! Very strange. Thank you.
Your welcome. It was driving me crazy too.
