Post Type Capabilities

Hi there,
How can I hack your plugin so I can assign publish/edit capabilities to a role? I’m using a capabilities editor and have found I can’t simply add “edit_artist” and “publish_artist” to a role. Something about how the Post Type was registered.
Where should I go look if I want to give my Post Type this capability?
