You can download this plugin to look at your datbase (where posts, etc. are stored).

Hi,
I downloaded, installed and activated the plugin. Now what do I do?
(Remember, I just learned how to ‘drive’ WP, I don’t know how to repair it yet…)
I saw in the ‘row statistics table’ that the last ‘update’ was made on Jan 22 12.49 PM. I know for certain that the posts that have disappeared, were made after that time.
NB: Blog address is: http://www.beikey.net/mrs-deane (if that helps anything).
admin -> Manage ->phpmyadmin
Once the admin screen loads, scroll down to the table you want to look at. The icons to the right – 1st one is “browse”- if you hold your mouse over it it should say this. Click to browse. Once the table loads you can view the contents. Click on “operations” a tab near top. When the new screen loads scroll to bottom and you will see options for repairing, checking, etc. table. Click on “check table” – if it’s bad- click on “repair table”.
Hope this helps but you really should read the docs about myphpadmin because you can screw it up beyond repair.
“Hope this helps but you really should read the docs about myphpadmin because you can screw it up beyond repair. ” – I know, but right now I am like standing at the side of the road with a broken car and I am focussed on getting it back to work rather than spending hours on the manual how to fix a broken gear chain or something. Right now, this forum is my WP yellow angle that I hope will guide me thru the diagnostics and the repairs.
I did what you told me to do and I found the table with posts that was browseable. However, the two missing posts have gone from that table as well, no trace left. I also noticed that I am missing two comments that were made after the date/time mentioned.
I am starting to wonder if this is a server problem rather than a WP problem. I just read my host is having problems with one of their servers and is replacing it as we speak. That could be it, no?
TIA,
H
Well, yes. It could happen like this: they (the host) had a problem with the machine and after a crash or something they restored your blog (together with the whole server’s content) from a backup copy that was made before those last posts of yours.
Look at the bright side: good that they had a backup only 2 days old and not one a month old… 🙂
“good that they had a backup only 2 days old and not one a month old… :)” – OMG, you don’t mean to tell me there are hosts who only back up once a month?
While I am awaiting their reply to my message I’ll try to recreate those missing posts. Stupid I didn’t save them as I made them in DMW. Now I learn the hard way that it’s best to have back ups on my own HD as well as on the server….
Yes, it was the server. Got a notification in the mail today. Let’s say it has been an interesting experience and that, thanks to the forum, I now have a convenient plugin!
