I have been using Postie for a while on two of my sites (the one that gets the most use is chaindlk.com) and I think everything was running fine (at least so I assume, since there are several authors contributing via postie).
Today I sent three emails to my secret email address connected to postie and none of them showed up on my site, even after manually running Postie.
I tried resending them twice and at one point I cleared the WP cache and my browser cache and I resent the emails again and I finally got one of the emails to show up but still not the other two… I am trying to find out how I can even troubleshoot this. I tried to read the FAQ and it says something about a wp-content\debug.log file but I have no such file in my wp-content directory.
Can you please help?

The debug log will be displayed on the screen if you click “Run Postie (Debug)”

You can post relevant parts of the log here (don’t just post the whole thing)

I also wanted to add that I have checked my mailbox and it is empty, so it seems the emails are being fetched but not being posted.

Ok, so the define(‘WP_DEBUG’, false); line did not exist in my config file so I added the three lines you suggested.
This created the debug.log file and I removed all the non-postie things as well as sensitive info (email and password) and pasted it below.
As you can see one message was indeed processed and yet this message does not appear in my posts, even after having cleared the WP and the browser cache.
Any ideas?

I don’t see the end of the log file. You should see something like:

Mail fetch complete, 1 emails

If not then something else is happening and you will need to look at your web server error logs.

I did the same test again.
I re-sent the email and then I run Postie manually. The first time it said it found no message so I thought maybe the email had not reached the server yet. So I ran Postie manually again and this time it processed the email.
The strange thing is that the second time there was no “Mail Fetch Complete” line while the first time there was.
I am pasting the whole log of activity so you can see if maybe one of the other errors is creating this. It seems when there is an email the mail fetch does not complete for some reason.

From your logs it looks like things are failing when WordPress tries to create the various image sizes.

For some unknown reason some hosts have an issue with this. Try setting the “Generate Thumbnails” setting in the “Image” tab to “No”

Do you know why there might be an issue with that or is there something I can check with my host?

I wish I knew what the problem was. I spent a lot of time on one system that had the issue and could never track it down. I suspect it is some combination of OS, PHP and graphics library version.

I don’t rightly know. I suspect if depends on your theme.

You can make use of the different sizes in Postie image templates.
