The problem is that Disqus Comment System replaces the standard comment system and seems to never have implemented the standard wordpress hooks required by this plugin.

Unfortunately none of these have been replied to by the plugin author, so it looks like there is little hope.
I’ll still try and configure it on a test system and see whether an alternative approach can be used for Disqus.
