Good evening. Earlier today I noticed that my posts aren’t appearing on my posts page, so I searched for solutions. I decided to deactivate all my plugins, and then changed to one of the default WordPress theme. It didn’t work. Then I switched to a static page and set both the front and posts page. It worked; however, when I switched back to latest posts, the same problem again. I need a dynamic front page. I haven’t coded since the 90s when I was in middle school, so I can’t even begin to restart now, and I’m new to this WordPress stuff, so please be patient with my foolishness. If anyone can spare the time to help, it would be greatly appreciated. My website is http://www.writersheadache.com

    Thank you for time.

  • I’m not totally sure I understand your question. Right now, it looks like you have the front page set to posts? And they are showing up there? Can you explain more?

    Thank you for your reply!

Right now my reading section is set to latest posts instead of static page. When you hover over the link to any of my posts, it says http://www.writersheadache.com/videos. The videos page (nicknamed vlog the impaler) is where my posts are supposed to go after I publish them, but they are not there. When you click on any post, it goes to my vlog the impaler (video) page but nothing is there. Sorry I didn’t do a better job of explaining the first time, and thank you again for your time.

Okay, so the videos page is set up as a PAGE (not posts) – you need to use category posts to put all video posts on that “page” (Page is a confusing term because static pages in WP are no the same as a generic webpage.)

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/what-is-the-difference-between-posts-vs-pages-in-wordpress/

So you need to create a category “videos” (actually you can’t have a page and a category of the same name, so delete the page and empty the trash first if you want to use videos), and then assign that category to the menu item.

Alternatively, if you want posts to appear on a static page, you can use a plugin to do so – https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/posts-in-page/

Thank you again for your reply.

I erased my vlog the impaler page, then created a category called vlog the impaler and added it to the menu. Finally, I switched back to my regular theme, but now when I click on any post, it redirects me to the videos page which I erased. On my regular theme, it doesn’t show everything I write in a post, so you need to click on it to show the entire post. How do I redirect those posts to go to VLOG THE IMPALER instead of going to the erased videos page?

    Thank you for your time.

I don’t see any category posts on your site – so you need to assign “VLOG THE IMPALER” as a category to the posts you want there. Also, try resetting your permalinks. Make sure you’ve emptied the trash, not just deleted the page.

Thank you again for your reply and time. How do I reset my permalinks?

Go to Settings > Permalinks and just press “Save Changes”

Sorry, I should have searched resetting permalinks online. I know you are very busy. Thank you so much for your help! You addressed my issue and so much more. I am putting a contributor page on my website, so I hope you don’t mind if I list you there. I’ll wait for your response, so I can stamp this as resolved:-)!

No problem – happy to help, really :)! That’s why all of us hang out here when we have a bit of free time. And that’s a lovely gesture – you could actually make it a broad appreciation of all the volunteers here on the ww.wp.xz.cn forums – as I’ve learned a lot from others here too :)!

Don’t hesitate to post again if you run into other questions. And have a good night (or whatever it is where you are)!

Hey, sorry, for bothering you again, but I didn’t realize that when I change my permalinks to default that all my other permalinks appear in a ?page_id=# combination, so, for example, instead of the permalink for my contributors page being http://www.writersheadache.com/contributors, it ends up having the ?page_id permalink. The setting I first found there was the custom option and in the blank space was /videos, but when I set it to /videos again, I’m having that same missing page problem (I erased that page completely). Is there any way I can have my permalinks appear as their customs words while making sure when my readers click on the heading of my blog posts they will be directed to the entire post and not that missing page?

Thank you again for your time.

No problem – but I’m not sure I understand the problem – I looked at your site and the pages seem to be working now?

But since your theme has to do with videos, I’m wondering if using that word in the permalink may be problematic – you may want to ask the theme developers about that – they’d be the ones to answer theme specific questions.

Yes, I know the problem now, ha-ha. Your last response made everything click. My posts permalink have to be named using dates and times or some other value on the permalink settings. Having the permalink as /video prevented my posts being named anything else except that, meaning there was nowhere for my posts to display themselves because they didn’t have a distinct permalink name/value. That was my original problem. Thank you so much for dealing with me and sacrificing your time. It’s a cold day in New York, but you’ve made the day so much better. I’m forever grateful. I know a section on my contributors page isn’t much, but I hope it makes your day, as you have made mine. Thank you again!

Glad to hear it – and you’re welcome – it IS very nice to be appreciated :)! Thank you.

@wpyogi I have the same problem. Site: Seeoneart.com I just made a new post titled “Olympus Cameras: The Selfie project”. The post was added to my social media links, and shows up on my Posts page. But when I look at the front page its not showing up?

I followed the clear cache, deactivate plugin, switch to 2014 theme. The new post shows on the the 2014 theme but is gone when switching back to the theme i want. I was able to post normally a few days ago. I dont understand what the problem is, please help!

@seeoneart – looks like you are using Pinboard theme – so please start your own thread here:
