Posts page always loads the same template? | ww.wp.xz.cn

I have my wordpress install set up to use a static page for the home, and then select a different page for the blog. My problem is the one I set for the blog always loads a template I made called home.php. If I delete the home.php template, it loads index.php. How is it choosing what template to load, so I can make it load the one I want?

It will look for a file called home.php first. If that doesn’t exist, it will look for index.php. There is no 3rd alternative. If you want to modify your blog page, you’ll need to edit either home.php or delete home.php and edit index.php

Wow that worked. Is that mentioned any where in the documentation? It’s especially odd since none of the included themes even have a home.php

It’s a hangover from earlier version of WP that didn’t have the same Posts page/Static Front page functionality. home.php was sometimes uses to “force” a static-type front page template, if I remember correctly. Tends be be quietly discouraged now – which is probably why it isn’t mentioned very often in the Codex.
