Potential Bug: Version 4.9.3: Published state not taking effect
-
Hi PublishPress Folks,
I wanted to draw your attention to a potential bug with version 4.9.3 of the PublishPress Future/Post Expirator plugin. I’m finding that Pages/Posts that have a “Future Action” to go from Draft to Published will not actually be Published. Users must proactively Save the Page/Post as an extra step; otherwise, the Page/Post will render a 404.
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue (please note I’m using Page as an example):
1) On a given WordPress site, activate version 4.9.3 of the PublishPress Future plugin.
2) From the WP Dashboard, click Pages > Add Page > Give the new Page a working title.
3) On the Page’s right-hand side Settings menu, check the “Enable Future Action” checkbox and configure the Future Actions accordingly:
ACTION: Change Status
NEW STATUS: Published
TIME: 2-3 minutes from current time
DATE: Today’s date
4) Click “Save draft”.
5) Return to the Pages submenu.
6) Note the information under the “Future Action” column of the “Draft” page that was created above (e.g., “Change status on [date and scheduled time]”).
7) After the scheduled time from above has passed, refresh the Pages submenu.
8) Note that the Page from above is now in a “Published” state and there is no longer information under the “Future Action” column.
9) Hover over the “View” button of the Page from above and notice that instead of showing the URL of Page, the URL is that of the site’s home page (this is incorrect).
10) Click the “Edit” button from the Page above.
11) From the page’s right-hand side Settings menu, click the Slug, and hover over the “Permalink”. Notice that instead of pointing to the URL of the Page, the URL is that of the site’s home page (this is incorrect).
12) Attempt to navigate to the page above by inputting the complete URL into the browser. Notice the browser returns a 404 error instead of the requested page, despite the Page having a status of “Published”.
NOTE: It is only after the user proactively clicks “Save” on the given page that the Page’s “Published” state is correctly reflected.
Could you please advise on above? Please also let me know if I can provide you additional information.
Best Regards,
Matthew Huntley
