• I’m getting a (frankly baffling) warning from Powerpress when I save changes to a menu – I get a whole series of warnings saying:

PowerPress Warning: you may be exceeding your fields limit, a server setting that limits how many fields your pages can contain. Your current limit is 1000

In terms of the field limit – it’s a long menu, and I have previously had problems with menu items being cut off, but the limit was raised and that is no longer happening. Mostly I’m just baffled as to why Powerpress is appearing on the menu page?

We’re using the category podcasting option, and I have noticed the podcast fieldset appearing on pages and a number of custom post types that use the category taxonomy as well as the default post editing page – I have no idea if this is connected but it suggests that Powerpress is being called in places it’s not required.

Where in WordPress is the “menu page?” Is it part of the appearance section? Also, there’ve been several updates recently to PowerPress. Make sure all of your plugins, theme, and core WordPress are up to date.

Yes, this is in Menus (wp-admin/nav-menus.php) in the Appearance section. WordPress core, theme and plugins are up to date, and it happens when all other plugins are deactivated. It doesn’t happen on all menus, just those with a high number of menu items. It doesn’t seem to be directly affecting saving menus, it’s just ~messy. I have debugging on as this is a testing site, but set to log and not display – these warnings aren’t being logged there.

Does the problem still occur if you temporarily switch to a different theme and save changes there?

Yes, it happens when I switch to e.g. the Twenty Twenty theme

Thanks for the clarification. When you’re in the appearance menu page, are you seeing the Podcast Episode box somewhere on the page? Or is something else on the page referencing PowerPress? I checked on my own site but didn’t see anything and wasn’t able to replicate the error message. Also, if you can provide a screenshot of the error message you’re seeing, that’d be helpful.

The episode box isn’t visible anywhere – the only thing remotely connected is the admin menu item for the Powerpress settings.

I can’t upload a screenshot here – I can provide one if necessary – but it’s just multiple instances of the ‘PowerPress Warning: you may be exceeding your fields limit, a server setting that limits how many fields your pages can contain. Your current limit is 1000‘ message with a ‘Learn More’ that links to the ‘Warning Message Explained’ support page.

The number of warning messages corresponds to the number of items in the menu being saved.

A mew version of PowerPress was released. Make sure core WordPress, all plugins, and your WordPress are up to date. If the problem persists after that, let us know.

That latest updated does seem to have sorted the problem, thank you.
