    Hi,

    First of all, great plugin.

I was wondering if there is a way to prevent the embedded images from being used as a featured image. Instead I would like to select a dozen or so images and set them by category.

I have the second part figured out, but when i create a post, it’s still defaulting to the 1st embedded image from the post.

In my application, I’m using the featured image to feed a slider. I would like to specify custom formatted images instead of the embedded images.

    Thanks,

    John

Sorry for the silly question, but did you uncheck the box “use 1st image”?

What do you mean with “custom formatted images”? Images in another size?

We’ll, if you are talking about this section, my settings are as follows:

-Always use first content image as featured image (not selected)
-Use first content image as featured image, only if there is no featured image (Selected)

(If activated the rule is used automatically at saving if the post has content images. If the post has no content images the next rules will be applied.)

-Activate to use first content image as featured image (not checked)

And if I’m reading these correctly, they all pretty much use the first image….

The remaining rules apply after the above, so even if I have a rule set to choose a category and apply an image to it, the first image in the post gets used.

By Custom sized, I mean that my images are 960-350 for a slider. the image that gets used from the post is larger than the slider.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, the reading goes: Activate to use 1st image => if checked, use one of the two ways how to do this: either always or only if there is no featured image.

You have not checked the option “Activate to use first image”. That is good. But I can not understand why the plugin use the first image. It is not coded this way šŸ™‚

This plugin sets the relationship between a post and an image as featured. No size is affected. Custom sized images is a topic of the code of the theme.

I see two ways how to get your desired image size in the slider:

    1. If you are familiar with PHP coding please look into the code where the slider loads the images.
    2. Easier: Please install the plugin ‘Regenerate Thumbnails’ and run it once. I think this should be enough.

Because the choice in rule # one is a radio button, the only way to uncheck that is to select “Always use first content image as featured image”, which is what I do not want to happen.

This is why I was confused – all of the options for rule # 1 say that they will use a post image first, then the explanation of the rules below says that rule #1 is always implemented 1st….

I corrected my post. Please read it again.

Sorry if I’m not being clear.

This is not really an issue of the size of the image.

When I manually select the featured image in my posts, I select an image that it 960×350. This image goes into my slider perfectly.

I want to use your plugin to select images formatted as 960×350 and assign them as the featured images using a filter to assign images by category.

The problem is, I have images in each post. These images get selected to be used as the featured image according to rule #1. They are not the images I want used in the slider.

I do not want the images from my posts to be used as featured images at all.

That is really strange. I cannot reproduce your case. If the checkbox “Activate to use the first image” is not checked none of the two other options is considered and no content image should be used as featured image at all.

    Sorry, I can’t help quickly.

Okay, thanks for your time. below is a link to an image which displays the settings for the 1st rule.

The settings are correct due to your wish not to use embedded images.

Thank you for your inputs. I will edit the description at the settings for better understanding.

The new version 8.2.2 is out considering a request of a new rule to keep existing images. Please take a look at the preset rules since the change also affects the “first content image” rule.

If you need support to this topic please start a new thread.

If you find the added value useful I would be glad if you would leave review.
