    Already for months Free Downloads is generating spam on our site. All pages where we offered a free PDF download had to be taken down. I’ve posted about this in the Pro forum, because we have a paid license, but since november I have been waiting for an answer.
    Free Downloads seemed really promissing, but the problems and lack of support, even for Pro license customer is really disappointing. Or maybe I should say totally absent ….

    So sorry about this experience, not great!

    I am not aware of the forum post – can you please log a support ticket instead and we can help with this, seems like a specific issue to your site.

    Can you include how you think spam is coming from our plugin and how it was taken down – just want to understand.

    Is it that you have it so that an email gets sent out with the download link and that is causing spam?

    I don’t understand way my post was missed, because I already mentioned this issue about 6 months ago in the premium support forum: https://wpenhanced.com/community/forums/topics/free-download-miss-used-by-spam-bots/

    But anyway: i really need a solution. It seems the url’s of the Free Downloads poroduct pages are being harvested from our site and the order links are being activated by some spam process. No idea how thus works, but it very destructive, because we get complaints from email providers and they block our IP address.

    So if anything can be done quickly, that would help.
    We have a number of Free Download links on our site, which are now all set to ‘unavaulable/sold out’, but that does not help at all

    I have replied to the forum. Below is what I have written so you can others can see.

    Good news is I have implmented 2 forms of spam protection

    1) Honeypot – insert a hidden field that tricks the spam bot. If they fill this in (human wont see it), we dont process the form
    2) time-based – if the form is submitted within 2 seonds of the page loading, we dont process. Spam bots submit very quickly.

    Hi Pete,

    I tried to update FDWc, but got an error message: Update failed. Unauthorized.

    Then I reloaded and it seems after all it was unstalled succesfully.

    How can I check if the problem is solved?

    Is there a visible spam checker? Can I see something?

    Otherwise: the Spam attacks don’t always happen, so I have to wait to see if this works….

    I think the only way to know is if you are still getting spam. We have added in 2 ways to prevent it so should stop them but if it is not, we can look at other methods

    But to find out I’ll still have to install the update first, which isn’t working.
    Any tip how to get around this: ‘Download mislukt. Unauthorized’ ?

    Are you using the free or pro version?

    I assumed Pro as you are talking about spam from the form which is a pro feature

    If pro, please make sure you have a valid license active on the site – if yes, can you submit a support ticket so we can help check this

    We have a Pro license and the license is active.
    It’s being used on a multisite platform.

    I have been in discussion with other customers who have updated successfully so could be something wrong with the license key, happy to check this

    I will mark this as resolved and close for now, any issues we can chat here again but makes sense to do on our site
