Prevent WP Updates?

Is there a way to prevent WordPress updates without your consent? My website was completely broken due to a WordPress version update because my theme did not support the new version. I was presented with a white page of code. Took an hour or more to get my website back in working order.

I spend a lot of time finding a theme and making modifications and I’d like it to keep working and not break due to WP updates.
