Preview link not working

Got a preview error: There has been an error processing your request
I am logged in as admin.
It seems to happen only with newspaper sites. I tested several links from several newspaper sites and they all failed.
Non news sites I tested work fine.
E.g. the following link fails:
http://www.parool.nl/amsterdam/nederlandse-havens-krijgen-havenambassadeur~a4424562/
Hope you can make sense out of this.

I have also another preview link problem (maybe related). The tumbnail is not rendering. It looks like the link is broken.
This is the link I am putting in the activity stream:
https://www.noord-holland.nl/Actueel/Archief/2016/November_2016/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen

When looking on the site above to the thunbnail image link it is:
src=”/Actueel/Archief/2016/November_2016/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen.std?disposition=inline” width=”570″ height=”382″ />

This image is not rendering in the activity stream preview. When looking in your code it is pointing to:
src=”https://www.noord-holland.nl/Actueel/Archief/2016/November_2016/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen//Actueel/Archief/2016/November_2016/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen/11_aanvragen_wind_op_land_definitief_afgewezen.std?disposition=inline” />

The link in your code is somehow hashed.

Hello @peerv, I hope you are doing well!

I tested the first link on my site and can’t replicate the same. The preview worked well. Please see the screenshots:

The second link indeed doesn’t load thumbnails on my site as well.

This issue is specific to the “noord-holland” site’s structure. I’ve checked the site’s code and it actually has the following image URL link on a site like this:
src="/Actueel/Archief/2016/November_2016/Waarnemend_burgemeester_Stede_Broec_benoemd/Waarnemend_burgemeester_Stede_Broec_benoemd.std?disposition=inline

It seems that the site is hiding the image format in its URL so the images can’t be previewed with the BuddyPress Activity Plus plugin.

I looked a little bit further and found out that this is security measure. More about those security protocols : RFC 1806 and RFC 2183

As long as this site using the following protocols, the images will not be shown by sharing the link.

Still problems with the preview links. Sometimes they work and sometimes not.
Tried many links but can’t figure out why.

Following links work:

https://www.debijenkorf.nl/product-lister-page.html?fh_view_size=48&chl=1&country=NL&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fnl_NL%2fdesigner_ingang%3E%7bdesigner%7d%2fbrand%3E%7bbottega_veneta%7d%2fcategories%3C%7bcatalog01_80%7d

Following links do not work: (There has been an error processing your request)
http://www.apple.com/nl/shop/mac/mac-accessories
https://www.bol.com/nl/boeken/engelse-boeken/index.html

Can’t find a pattern either why some links work and others not

Hello Peter,

I’ve checked with the developer again about this issue and he mentioned that the images on that sites have a relative path, src like ‘/relative-path-of-image.jpg’. The plugin adds the URL inserted in the link field.

So the link with https://support.apple.com/ will work and the link with /nl-nl/ https://support.apple.com/nl-nl/ will not work.

I’ve reported this issue to our developers. I hope it will be fixed soon. When the fix will be out, I’ll update this thread.
