Sorry about this issue with broken preview.
That’s most likely not theme related, but please do some troubleshooting.
Just for the test, change the active theme to one of the standard Twenty-something themes and see if the preview works.
If it does, then we can suspect the theme, if it doesn’t then try to temporarily disable all the plugins and see what happens.
If it still doesn’t work then it is something neither theme nor plugins related. That leaves us with WordPress core or some .htaccess or server issue.

I did clear my cache and swtiched the theme. neither helped the issues. where do i go from here?
