I have switched my development site to WP 5.0.3 and I am going through it very carefully to find what might be broken with this big WordPress update. I have found that the “Make Primary” link is gone. Will it return? I did some custom PHP work that uses the primary category to show other posts in that Primary Category. Will I need to rewrite that code?

  • Under a post the make primary category function is still available. If two or more categories are selected you should see a drop down menu beneath the categories that says ‘Select the primary category.’ If you are not seeing this can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v9.4.2 and WordPress version 5.0.3? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/

If you are still not seeing this feature available after confirming that both are updated this may be due to a plugin or theme conflict. Can you confirm you have performed a complete plugin/theme conflict check by disabling other plugins, and resetting the theme to a default such as twentyseventeen? We have additional information on how to check for a conflict here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/

Ah, I missed that. Used to be a text link next to the category. Thank you.
