Primary Menu in Menu Edit

I was trying to create new sub-menus. I was having trouble and thought I deleted one of the new sub-menus when I was in Dashboard/Appearance/Menus Primary Menu. I had the list of menus and was dragging boxes to have as sub-menus. When I went back to the home page, all of the sub-menus plus main titles are listed as equal on the home page menu bar. When I went back to try again, Primary Menu was not an option to edit, so I can’t try to create the hierarchy again.
