Hello, I’m still pretty new to WordPress & blogging. I’m not sure if I have a WordPress issue or a Yoast SEO problem.

I have a blog categories page on my website. It’s set to ensure that posts are not shown more than once throughout the page (so they’re only shown in one category, even if tagged in multiple). I would like the posts to be shown in the primary category that I set for them. However, they’re just appearing in the first category assigned to them alphabetically. For instance, if I have a post set to categories A, E, and R, and the primary category is E, it’s showing up under the A category on the category page instead.

Is there a way to fix this problem? I would like to be able to set multiple categories on posts as needed, but I want them assigned to specific primary categories for a reason.

The categories are also listed alphabetically on the blog post itself, instead of showing the primary category first. I don’t know if there’s a way to fix that too, but that’s not quite as important as the category page problem.

    Thanks so much!

    Hello @onetinyember,

Thanks for using Yoast SEO. I understand you chose a primary category for a blog post, but that’s not always reflected in the front end.

Yoast SEO doesn’t control what is displayed as a category in the front end — your theme does. The primary category is for the breadcrumb path and permalinks.
