Google and other search engines have shown less interest in the priorities over time.
In fact, other SEO plugins even went so far as to remove feature completely.
Moreover, adding features like these will drastically affect performance and will cause overhead in maintenance for generating the sitemap.
For now, while this feature still exists, the order is automatically determined by the post publishing date.
The timestamps are something where Search Engines do look at.
Please note that the sitemap doesn’t improve ranking. It only helps getting pages indexed faster.
Sitemaps could add structural information, but those have been replaced with improved JSON-LD scripts (which TSF utilizes).
