I’m setting up a website for my girlfriend and we are just about ready to launch it, however we are having issues when setting up the new wordpress website as a redirect.

The original website is under the public.html folder as Tienfrogget

The new location is in the public.html as Tienfrogget3. The website displays just fine if you use the below link. It works in chrome,IE and firefox.
    Froshay.com/tienfrogget3

This is the link to the redirected website. This one works in chrome but not IE or Firefox.
    Tienfrogget.com

On chrome the new redirected website works just fine. However on IE and firefox the website doesn’t display properly. Sometimes refreshing the site fixes it, but an first time visitor from IE or firefox has issues.

The error displayed is this “”

  • Yeah so you can’t have icon fonts load if the site is on a different domain then the content. Firefox doesn’t really allow it. You have to move the site url to the one you want to use.

    Awesome photography by the way.

Ok little confused by your response, but thank you for the nice words about her photography.

If I understand properly, if I change Site Address (URL) to http://froshay.com/tienfrogget3 everything work and everything does appear to work.

To be clear though, my girlfriends original website was already a redirect http://froshay.com/tienfrogget. All of her websites are on the same hosting plan, but are all created as sub directories.

Does this mean there is no way to have her website displayed as Tienfrogget.com?

Is multi site any sort of fix to this problem?

    Ok sorry,
so to explain more fully. In the database you have to change all the urls to point to Tienfrogget.com else you can have to domain pointing there but the files all still load through a different domain.

For example if you go to Tienfrogget.com the logo url is:
    http://froshay.com/tienfrogget3/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/TF_Logo23.png

    instead of http://tienfrogget.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/TF_Logo23.png

So even though you pointed the domain to the directory you want you still have to change all the url references in the database to the new url format. Or on browsers like firefox it won’t load certain things.

    Thank you,

This seems like a bit of work to make these changes. Would using wordpress multi site be a better alternative for the next one?

I’m planning to update the original Froshay.com as well and move the root files to their own subdirectory before hand, but I can see this happening again down the road.

It’s worth learning how to transfer a wordpress install from one domain address to another. It’s probably easy then you think once you do it once. I don’t think a multisite is the way to go but thats my opinion.

Another route you can go is to point Tienfrogget.com to a new directory and change your settings back to http://froshay.com/tienfrogget3

Then use this plugin to move the whole site: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/duplicator/

It can make the process really easier, just have to create a new database in on your server.

But the script here works for what you have too: https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/

Thank you for the help and you where right, it was much easier after the first time.

Works just fine now on all browsers.
