    Hello Support
We are running a aerial image shop using WordPress with your plugin to compress all images in the media library. We have activated compression for all image sizes.

Still the Google PageSpeed Insight for our Domain http://www.luftbilderschweiz.ch tells us wee need to optimize the size of the already compressed images for example on the homepage.

Can you please advice on that issue?

    Thanks and best regards

    André Rühle

    Hi André,

Thanks for writing! You are right, Google has recently changed their page speed tool to suggest aggressive image optimisations.

Although of course it is possible to compress images more aggressively than what TinyPNG and TinyJPG do, the quality tends to suffer. Our image optimisation is intended to automatically determine an optimal balance between quality and size.

We do plan to look at our JPEG compression algorithms this year, to see if we can tune the optimisation to return smaller images in cases where it doesn’t harm the output quality.

Hope this helps understand the results given by Google.

Thank you very much for you quick response! Ok, I understand the problem and I go along with what you say.

Maybe you could implement a second, more aggressive compression methode that can be activated for certain images types in the config page. With that function it would be possible to compress the preview images more than the detail images.

If you compress images to 2kb google will suggest you compress to 1kb; it’s a war you’ll never win 🙂
