• Hello All,

I’m helping a friend switch from a self-hosted WordPress blog to WordPress.com. I imported the XML file into the wordpress.com account and got an email saying that the import was successful. When I looked at the new blog, I noticed that it’s missing posts from January of this year onwards.

From the dashboard, I see that the self-hosted blog has 2,757 published posts but the new blog has 2,636 published posts. I’ve had a look at the XML file to see about chopping it into the smaller pieces, but I couldn’t find some of the posts that are missing.

I contacted the support at wordpress.com and they wrote back, “As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the ww.wp.xz.cn support community.” So here I am.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, how did you get around it?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I think their support department go confused. Just reply to them and make sure that they understand you are going from a self-hosted ww.wp.xz.cn blog to a wordpress.com blog.

    Hi Mac,

    Thanks for the response.

When I check the XML file, it doesn’t contain the latest pots. It only goes up to January of this year. Surely that’s a self-hosted blog issue?

Make another Tools > Export XML from the old blog and re-import in WordPress.com blog. Sometimes, you have to re-import XML more than once. No worries, all posts which are already in WP.com blog won’t be affected – you’ll just get a message that the post and attachments are already there.

Thanks mercime. I will try that this morning. Hopefully it works this time!

Tried the import again, it didn’t work. Got an email from WP:

“We are sorry, but there was an error while performing your blog import.
Please contact support, and we’ll get everything fixed.”

I contacted them at the indicated link but have not yet had a reply.
