• I was just wondering how new users would see my site after I set up WP, so I went ahead to create a user account. I was appalled to see the dashboard on top of the profile tab. When I clicked it, I was taken to the admin area but with limited access. I clicked settings but was told I had no permission to access that page.

How can I remove the dashboard tab altogether to save my users the confusion? I want them to see only “Profile”

Thanks in advance to anyone who would attempt to provide a solution for me

  • It’s normal and expected behavior for new users to be able to access their own user/profile information and a very limited dashboard once they log in. Unless you have made the default new user role something other than “subscriber“, it’s really nothing to be alarmed about. It lets users change the email address and password in their profile if necessary, and view Other WordPress News and the WordPress blog by default.

That being said, you can still hide the dashboard using a plugin solution if you like. Here’s one I still use on a couple of sites.

Thanks for your concern in helping me solve that heck of a problem. I checked out the plugin page, but it is compatible only for an older version of WP. might create some issues if I go ahead and install it on my site

I understand your concern. If it’s of any help in making a decision on whether or not to give it a try, I’m currently using it on WordPress 3.6 with no issues.

Ok, I’ll give it a try. Thanks
