PROBLEM w/ JPEG on CDN + optimized thumbnails
-
So when I enable CDN + optimized thumbnails it works perfect on every featured image but ones with “jpeg” as the extension. For those it will not display the image.
How do I fix?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, @lbfing.
From my knowledge, the CDN doesn’t care about image extensions, so it should be something else. What’s the image URL?
This is url the cnd makes…
which gives you this… We cannot complete this request, remote server returned an unexpected status code (400)
Thanks, @lbfing.
Does the CDN work with any other image from brightspotcdn.com? Maybe a png, webp…
I don’t know and have no way of checking right now.
Mu site pulls news from rss feeds. This is a new feed I added today. Its the only feed that has brightspotcdn. It just also happens to be only feed pulling jpeg files and that is why I thought it was that.
It does do it on all the listing from this site though and all the post are pulling featured images using brightspotcdn. All files are jpeg!
I mean the image is valid and shows fine when using original url. So not sure why it would have an issue??
Ok so i found a temp images from them to try with jpg…
This one does not work either. So it appears not an extension problem but rather a problem with url structure or that cdn specifically.
Ok so i attempted to post another url I fond from them with jpg and that too did not work. It got flagged by moderator for some stupid reason.
Not sure how long it will take for them to approve it so well just bypass them.

As described in the FIFU settings, wp.com CDN has some limitations that cannot be fixed, because the CDN isn’t ours. For example, it’s known it doesn’t serve images from YouTube, Google Drive and others.
FIFU Cloud is an alternative that is under our control and could be fixed if you had any issue.
Anyway, we’ll add a condition to CDN + Optimized Thumbnails, then it won’t try to optimize images from brightspotcdn. This way the original image will be displayed, what’s much better than no image. The change will be available in the next version, 4.2.2, that should be released in 1 week.

If it could still optimize the code displayed like the width and height and everything else it adds. Just keep the url from the original CDN that would be perfect.
Thanks for the fast replies, much appreciated.

The query parameters that FIFU adds to the image URL to resize/crop the image only makes sense when there is a CDN behind that. Without the CDN, it’s not possible to do any optimization.

Yes. It’ll be done, @lbfing.
Hello,
Since last update the problem with the cdn is fixed. Thxs!
However another problem arises from it. I have your plugin set to crop all my featured images to 720×405. So when it has the cdn that is not supported it does not crop the image.
How can i get it to still crop the image? Thxs!
Glad it worked, @lbfing.
A CDN is necessary to provide a cropped image. Since the free CDN can’t serve some of your images, you could use the FIFU’s CDN: FIFU > Cloud.
An alternative is a crop via CSS, but the image isn’t optimized: FIFU > Settings > Featured image > Same Height.
