I’ve done the upgrade to the latest version of WP. No problems. But when I reactivated WordPress Stats plug-in, I was asked for my API key. I inserted the key, but was told:

“The API Key [key number] belongs to the WordPress.com account of “NAME”. If this is not your account, please re-enter your API Key.”

My WP.com account is in a different name than my website. I was given three alternatives by WordPress Stats: re-enter the API key, Add new blog to my account, or Replace an Existing Blog.

What do I do? I don’t want to mess up anything with my stats or website. Help!

I should add to my original query that I have an externally hosted website and use WordPress software.

All I did was upgrade WordPress (from 2.9 to 3.0.3) using the Upgrade Now button. Before that, though, I deactivated all plug-ins per instructions I made from previous upgrades. After the successful upgrade, I reactivated plugins. That’s when I inserted the API key I had been using and got the “The API Key [key number] belongs to the WordPress.com account of “NAME”. If this is not your account, please re-enter your API Key” message.

I would very much appreciate help on this so that I can retain the stats from before my upgrade. Do I just choose the “Replace an Existing Blog” button (which in the scrolling list shows my website name, and nothing else)?

Thanks so much for any help.

I resolved my own problem and maybe this can help others…

What had to be done was to update/upgrade the WP Stats plug-in, then enter the API key, and finally to select the “Recover Stats” button (which wasn’t available in the previous version). My mistake was to assume that the previous version of WP Stats would have to be functional before I upgraded.

Hopefully my experience will help others.
