• I thought I licked the problem, but what I have is just the “code” screen, the “visual” screen does not appear, not even the tab for it. That sounds like I missed some files in the upgrade, but I feel I’ve uploaded and re-uploaded them a dozen times now. What files would be missing that would show only the code screen, but not the visual editing screen?

  • I had exactly the same problem, so I don’t think it’s to do with missing files.

    Visit Users -> Your Profile.

    Top check box is to use the visual editor (aka wysiwyg). You probably want to turn it on and save.

    Thanks, HandySolo, I’d have never thought it would be unclicked by default since most bloggers aren’t coders so I didn’t even think to look for a selection to click πŸ˜€ Thanks again!

    Oh, that wasn’t the problem I had. Both the code and wysiwyg editors were missing on my wife’s blog. When “Use the visual editor when writing” is checked there are no editing tools of any sort available. When unchecked the code tools are displayed.

    When I had my initial problem and went around re-uploading everything, then I’d go to the dashboard, then click back to “write” and nothing was changing. I was getting so frustrated. Then I right-clicked the “write” page and picked “reload” (or refresh) and there it was as it should be. So maybe go directory by directory re-uploading things and when you’re done with each directory refresh the page with a right-click instead of the “reload/refresh” icon at the top of the browser.

    Haecceity – what browser? Javascript enabled? Any “client security” stuff running on the local machine?

    This was happening on two computers — Firefox 2 on OSX and on Win 2k. Javascript enabled on both machines, and no client security stuff running.

    Huh.

    I, personally, would fall back to the “There are missing files” stance.

    If you turned on the visual editor and then visited Write Post screen, it’d be interesting to know what Firefox’s built-in javascript debugger gave for messages. (Firefox Tools menu, Error console and clear it before going to the page).

    To my great embarrassment it turned out that there were indeed missing files!

    Hi everyone … newbie here. I have just uploaded Advanced TinyMCE Editor. Everything working fine except that the screen in the visual editor is black, so anything in colour or images are there but obviously I can’t see any text. code editor appears to be fine. Please can someone help change the visual editor screen back to white?
    Many thanks
