• Hello! Originally I was having the following problem: Whenever I would publish or save a new post to drafts it would neither publish nor save to drafts. So after researching a bit I updated my backup plugin, backed up, created an export file and updated my wordpress version through the automatic updater thinking this might help. After I updated it prompted me to login, then told me my login details were not correct. I reset my password. One I tried to login with the new password now it just redirects me to the login page again with blank fields.

Looking through to forums I did try the fix mentioned about clearing all cookies/temp internet files. Did not work. So I also tried logging into my ftp account and changing my plugins folder to be named ‘plugins-old’ and this did not work.

Anyone else have any easy suggestions for this? Keep in mind I do have both a backup through the plugin and my export folder to perhaps undo something that way.

Thank you so much for your help!

    – To rule out any theme-specific issue, try switching to the unedited default theme WITH all plugins deactivated for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

Thanks for the help. I tried deleting the xtra themes, then setting my ProPhoto3 theme to be ‘prophoto3-old’ as well as my plugins to ‘plugins-old’. Did not work šŸ™ I am worried that if I delete everything but the default unedited theme I will lose the custom changes I have made to my current theme. Is this something to worry about?

First, does the issue exist when you swith to the default theme?

I changed my previous theme to ‘prophoto3-old’ and the issue was not resolved. Not sure if this made WP use the default theme or not. I do not have access to my admin area so I have to do it through ftp. If I delete everything but the default theme that sound force them to use it right? If I copy my ‘prophoto3’ theme folder to my hard drive THEN delete it. Once I have everything fixed can I put the copied folder back and still keep all the customizations that I made to that theme?

    ardentphoto,
It seems you are not alone with this problem. I am experiencing exactly the same issue from what I can see.
I also updated my WP version last night, today I can not access the admin area with a login attempt only resulting in a refreshed page much as you seem to get.

Initially I was shown a page that said I didn’t have a config.php file and asked to recreate it, requiring the login details for the DB. but this has not resolved my access to the admin area.

I have tried a restore from backup, no effect on the admin access I am afraid.
I’m considering a roll back to the previous version of WP..

    Your theme “prophoto3” is a non-WP.org theme.

So, my suggestion is to contact the theme’s developer for support.

Omega how do you roll back to the previous version? Tara- Thanks for the suggestion and your help šŸ™‚

    ardentphoto,

I seem to have found a workaround to access the admin area (if I am understanding your access issue correctly).

I noticed that the login page included a redirect string after the .php (see below eg.), I removed this and it went directly to my admin page (as I had already authenticated).
This got me in but hasn’t actually resolved the root cause I don’t think. Perhaps it will help you in the short term.

I’m not too sure, I saw something about it the other day. I am looking for it and will post back if I find it but no luck so far..

Omega, Turns out our web host was able to revert our webspace back to a previous version which allowed us to ‘undo’ our update. Perhaps check with yours and see if this would be an option for you

Running an outdated version of WP is a major security risk – downgrading is not recommended at all.

@omega BCS – please start your own thread if you need help on these forums per:

It makes sense that running to most up to date version would be best. I am just unsure where to go from here. Theoretically could I install wordpress into a new directory, a fresh copy a fresh start then use the export file from my previous blog to import all of my old posts?
