I forgot to say the Google Chrome version: 13.0.782.112 m .
I’ve created a Google profile now. After the creation of the Google profile the GDE (in enhanced mode) not show the document, only the empty viewer. BUT… after I’ve made the Google account a public account, the GDE display the viewer and the document correctly!! This means that all my website users MUST HAVE a public account on Google?? If so, I think this is inacceptable…
After created and logged in my public Google account the GDE works well in Standard and Enhanced mode. My PDF files are stored on my remote Aruba server and the viewer is fast to load them.
I logged out from my Google account, thinking that the GDE will stop work… NO, it works well even if I’ve logged out from my Google account… so… what about this? Perhaps Google “prints” something on my PC after the first Google account and logon? I will investigate by myself, I see that anyone answer to my doubts…
One thing… Google Chrome users are thousands of thousands… and it’s strange that named GDE (Google Doc Embedder) have those problems on a Google product!
Hi radiolondra,
You should be aware of something regarding this plugin that it sounds like you’ve missed: Google Doc Embedder is a wrapper plugin for Google’s document viewer. I have tried to make it simpler for people to integrate the function of Google’s viewer into their sites and adding some small features to increase its usability in WordPress. As to the viewer itself, it is a Google product over which I have little to no control.
To say that it’s strange that Google’s viewer has problems in Chrome is obviously true, the irony is not lost on me either, but it has nothing to do with the plugin itself.
The Google acccount is often a source of fixing the errors. If this does not work or you don’t expect it to be broadly useful in this way to your site visitors, another solution will serve you better.
Hope this helps.
Hi k3davis,
I apologize but absolutely no irony were in my post.
I know the Google products has tons of bugs (lets see how many times Chrome crash, for example… and MSIE too!).
My tests on your plugin said me that GDE works fine if I have done a logon on my Google account. It’s very fast and stable, but the website user must have an active Public Google account. It’s a very good choice for every Google account user.
So.. I think your plugin is too much advanced for my needs. I simply want a PDF viewer, so I will use again the <object>… </object> tags to do this.
Many thanks and sorry again
Regards
Roberto
