I’ve recently started an account with GoDaddy, Hostgator & WordPress.
I’m a total newbie to all of this and the blogging world so even the most basic skills can be a challenge to master!

I’ve scoured the web to get the answer but not entirely sure so thought I’d ask.
Sorry if this is posted a jazillion times already, I know it’s basic stuff but some help would be appreciated.

I want to create a blog, that displays my posts on the homepage, as excerpts. The reader should be able to click on the titles of each excerpt and that should open the full post in a separate page.

An example of this would be whereisjenny.com

Currently my “site” displays the posts on the homepage (ok), but when you click on the links, it can’t find them, the permalinks are wrong but I don’t know how to change them.

I think I need to create separate pages for every post, then hide them so they aren’t displayed along the navigation bar…?

I’m sure there’s an easier way to do this and I don’t need to duplicate everything…

    Can somebody please help???

  • You probably need to change your permalink-structure or update the .htaccess file. First make the .htaccess file writable (666) and then navigate to dashboard > settings > permalinks. Pick your favourite permalink structure and click save changes. Now it should work. Don’t forget to chmod the htaccess file back to 644.

Ahh…I just realised this shortly after I started this thread.

Typical. Sorted now, thanks for the response.
