    Dear Scott,

first of all, what an absolutely amazing plugin. It serves all my needs, except for one problem: it doesn’t seem to be diacritic insensitive. Words with – for instance – å and ø can’t be found unless they’re typed exactly that way, i.e. they can’t be substituted with a and o.

I know there’s a hook in WordPress to ignore diacritics (https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Function_Reference/remove_accents), but I’m too sloppy a coder to add support for it myself. Any support would be incredibly appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Julian

(Quick addition: it does seem to be able to find words with ž when searching for z, so it might be that Scandinavian characters such as the ones above aren’t considered proper diacritics. Would there be any way around this?)

    Hi Segia
I have just done some testing on this and can see the issue. I made two test posts:

    – Special øå
    – øå

Searching for øå returns both posts. Searching for oa returns no posts.

Whilst this is frustrating I am not sure it is a bug. Performing a standard WordPress search behaves in exactly the same way from the looks of things. As I am using the core search feature I am not sure there is much I can do about it.

    Dear Scott,

thanks so much for your quick reply, that helped narrow it down. I’ve managed to resolve it by using your plugin in combination with Relevanssi, then using its synonym feature to allow searching for said characters.

    Kind regards,

    Julian

Glad to hear it. That sounds like a cool feature in Relevanssi!
