Problems With Dashboard and Setting Changes in WP 2.6.1

    After upgrading my version of WordPress from 2.5.1 to version 2.6.1 using Fantastico, I have found major problems using the WordPress dashboard and settings.

    Whenever I try to create a new category or delete a post, I am getting a blank page and WordPress is unable to register any changes.

    I have been using Firefox as my browser and Windows Vista as my operating system.

    I am wondering if these problems could be related to plugins like popularity contest, WordPress Sticky or other commonly used plugins.

    Even after disabling these plugins, I am unable to use WordPress 2.6.1’s dashboard or settings panels to create categories or delete posts.

    I think I have isolated this problem and it is related with a plugin that was developed for WP 2.3 and has not been upgraded.

    I think I have found a solution to this problem. I was able to use the plugin control panel to totally delete WP Sticky and I also deleted a plugin called Folding Categories which was originally developed for WordPress 2.3.

    It appears that the biggest problem was with the latter plugin or the way it worked in conjunction with WP Sticky. Both of these plugins mess with categories.

    I hope this information may be useful to other users.

    None of these reported problems occurred until I upgraded to WP 2.6.1.

    Note: I just tried this on a different blog without deleting all of WP Sticky. I just disabled the plugin Folding Categories for WP 2.3. This plugin kept working ok thruogh WP version 2.5 but stopped working with WP 2.6.1.

    This update of popularity contest works just fine with wordpress 2.5-2.6.1
