I have 2 major issues with WooCommerce 9.9.3.

    1. They changed the email templates to their new format without asking us. All of the sudden, the admin notifications are saying “Cha Ching” you have a new order and the formatting is all different. We use a lot of custom code in those notifications to include custom field data. I found the setting on WooCommerce > Settings > Email all the way at the bottom where there is a text link that says, “revert to legacy templates”. That took me hours to figure out and a lot of stress! WooCommerce should not change that on people. It should be a choice as to whether to try the new templates and leave the existing ones alone.
    2. I use a plugin by FlyCart called “Discount Rules for WooCommerce – PRO”. It does not work with the new version of WooCommerce.

I had to roll WooCommerce back to 9.8.5 until all this gets fixed.

Cha Ching can be edited trough woo>settings> emails> New order email, inside can change template regards, or install woo email template customizer 🙂

    Hi @spherman,

I completely understand your concern—especially since the update has disrupted your site due to the customizations you’ve implemented. It’s definitely frustrating when changes like this affect your site’s flow and potentially your business operations. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience caused.

@simeon78, thank you so much for your input and contribution—it’s truly appreciated. I’ll make sure to share your findings with the team internally, and I’ll keep you updated if there are any developments.

In the meantime, you can modify the “Cha-Ching!” text by going to WooCommerce > Settings > Emails > Manage (New Order).

    Hi there,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience — I completely understand how frustrating it can be to have something change unexpectedly, especially with something as important as email templates. Your feedback is absolutely valid, and I want to assure you that you’re not alone in this.

We’ve heard from several users about similar concerns, and I’m happy to let you know that we’ll be rolling out some updates based on this feedback in the next WooCommerce Core patch release coming next week.

    🔧 Here’s what’s changing:

    • Existing stores will no longer be automatically opted into the new email experience.
    • Instead, store admins will have the option to manually opt-in when they’re ready.
    • We’ve also removed the “Cha-ching!” and “Woo!” phrasing from the new order admin notification email for a more neutral and professional tone.

Regarding the issue you mentioned with editing the Subject line — you’re right that it can seem unresponsive. This field is actually not meant for editing the existing subject directly. Instead, when you click into the Subject box, you need to enter a new subject, which will override the default subject set by WooCommerce.

    Thank you

    Just FYI…

The email templates are reverting back to the new versions upon the WooCommerce 9.9.5 update. You guys really need to fix that. It should respect the choice of the legacy templates. Switching it on people without telling them, will mess up a lot of people like me with custom code in the email templates.

I think they may have actually heard and listened to you, because I just updated to 9.9.5 fully expecting to have to go in and revert to the old email template again, but what I found when I got there was that the old template was still active and the link shown was now the option to Opt-IN to the new templates.

This is the way forward. Point out the new whiz-bang stuff you come up with, but let us migrate to it as we see fit, especially in situations where there may be a lot of hard-coded custom stuff that has been added by the end user.

    Hi @spherman,

Thanks for the update, and I understand how concerning it is to see your email template settings being unexpectedly overridden after an update, especially when you rely on custom code in those templates.

That said, as @logicindustries kindly pointed out, WooCommerce version 9.9.5 should now respect the legacy email template setting. Stores that had previously opted to keep using the old templates should continue doing so after the update, with the new experience presented as an opt-in only. This change was made based on feedback like yours to help protect existing customizations and avoid unexpected disruptions.

@logicindustries, just to confirm—can you double-check and let us know if your experience was consistent across all order notification emails and settings? That would help ensure everything is working as expected.

Appreciate you both sharing your insights!

So, that is what I am saying…. I had switched to the legacy template in 9.9.3. When I updated to 9.9.4, the legacy templates were still in place. Then I updated to 9.9.5 and it switched it back to the new templates and I had to go choose the legacy template option again.

So, automatic updates are out for WooCommerce for a while. I can’t trust that it is not going to mess with us. I’ll need to check those settings each time for a while.

Yes, as far as I can tell, the latest update respected my choice to remain on the legacy templates for all of my currently configured emails.

    Thank you for fixing that.

    Hi @spherman

Thank you for sharing your experience—I completely understand how frustrating it can be when an update unexpectedly changes your settings, especially something as important as your email templates.

To test this on my end, I rolled back to version 9.9.4 and then updated to 9.9.5 multiple times. In each case, the legacy email template setting remained active, and I didn’t encounter the same issue.

This suggests it may have been a temporary glitch specific to your site. Hopefully, it won’t revert to the new email templates again in the future—but please don’t hesitate to reach out if it does. We’d be happy to look into it further.

Thanks again for your patience and for keeping us informed!
