I have a bunch of product on my website that are virtual and cost money, however when a user has a certain subscription those product are discounted 100% for them so they can get and use them for free. What I want to happen is when a user pays for the product they will retain access to it but when they get the product for the 100% discount I want them to only have access to it while they have an active subscription. When the user reactivates their subscription they should once again be able to access the products they purchased with their 100% discount.

Like how when you buy a movie you can watch it as much as you want but when you have a netflix subscription you can only watch the movie as long as you have the subscription.

I have looked around and have not found a way to implement this and I was wondering if anyone here had an idea of how to do this.

  • Hello @darkeghost ,

If I understand correctly, you are looking for a solution to create subscription products but the first payment should be free, and then they can either renew with a price or their subscriptions will be canceled. Is that right?

WooCommerce has an extension WooCommerce Subscriptions which does almost anything that you might want to implement with subscription-based products.

You can read more about the different discount options the extension provides here – https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/subscriptions/limited-payment-coupon-guide/

If you have a question about the extension please create a ticket through WooCommerce.com

    Thank you 🙂

No, that is not what I am asking at all. I have products that cost money (say movies for example) that when a user buys they have access to permanently however when a user has a certain subscription all the products (once again let’s say the products are movies) are free to use (have a discount of 100%) my issue is that once a user’s subscription ends they still have access to the products they got at a 100% discount.

And yes I am already using woocommerce memberships and subscriptions.

    Hello @darkeghost ,

Thanks for the explanation and mentioning that you are already using the extension.

Due to the ww.wp.xz.cn forum guidelines we are unable to discuss paid extensions feature here.

Please create a ticket on WooCommerce.com to get support regarding any questions for premium extensions.

    Thank you 🙂

I’m sorry I didn’t know that, I have had discussions about other paid plugins with no issues on here before.

    Hello @darkeghost ,

I understand your concern. If you take a look at the forum guideline about commercial products you will get more details why it is not recommended.

Also, while you are paying for the paid extension you are also paying for the support. You can share a paid extension’s name or suggest others but when something is not working of a paid product we should rather stick to the developers who have created them because we do not have access to the paid extensions to check and provide a suggestion that will work.

I hope this clears the confusion. Do not hesitate to open a thread if you have a question regarding core WooCommerce functionalities or need a suggestion. I am sure someone will get help from these discussions as well.

    Thank you 🙂
